Significance of U.S. Occupation of Japan
Changes made following World War II completely transformed the way in Japan functioned and contributed significantly to its successful transitioning into a country which today is at the forefront of technological and economic advancement and was heavily influenced by the Western model for modernization and democratization.
By 1947 the emperor's status was reduced to that of a figurehead without political control and more power was placed in the hands of the parliamentary system which promoted greater rights and privileges for women, and renounced the right to wage war, which involved eliminating all non-defensive armed forces. This was the result of the influences of the US led occupation of Japan.
